A message from Tracy: I was introduced to the beach volleyball game 2 summers ago. I wish that I had been introduced to the beach game when I was in middle school
so that I could have reaped the benefits that I have felt since I have started playing. My vertical jump increased dramatically during the 1st summer that I started playing. I also started seeing the court better, looking for ways to side-out against my opponents using different shots and not just hitting hard around the block. Playing 2 on 2 really made me work on my defensive positioning and reading. I also gained quickness and strength as I had to run and jump in the sand. The best part was that I got a great workout and didn’t even realize that I was working so hard because I was having so much fun! Playing tournaments really helped me quench my competitive hunger during the summer months. I want to recommend that all players get involved as soon as they can so that they can improve their indoor game when they are still in school and not when they are 25 like I was.
Beach Season: We are looking into doing a beach season in 2010. Our current plans include 6-8 weeks including 8 practices and 2 beach tournaments (North Ave Beach, Chicago). We’re trying to keep our beach season under $100.
